WintersNet Chat is an attempt to bring back the fun experience of the original MSN Chat, in particular the now-forgotten IRCX protocol. Developed by Microsoft, however never fully ratified, this was an extension to the IRC protocol which enhanced the IRC experience. This is a work in progress, and although driven by a Microsoft employee, has no official affiliation with Microsoft.

To join WintersNet Chat using your favorite IRC client, simply point your client to the following server address and port: irc.wintersnet.net:6667
